Top Designers Use Food as Fabric

Great creation through successful inspiration is a quality that few people possess. Fulvio Bonavia has both. An award-winning advertising and editorial photographer, Fulvio Bonavia is a true talent who has fulfilled the highest demands of the hungry eye. His work has been honored by Communication Arts, PDN, the Italian Art Directors Club, and the IPA, among others, and Luerzer’s Archive has named Fulvio one of the ‘200 Best Ad Photographers Worldwide’. With the publication of his book ‘A Matter of Taste’ he has achieved the unity of two conflicting worlds throughout time; Food & High Fashion. Both adored and wanted but at the same time forbidden.

A Matter of Taste’ illustrates high end fashion garments and accessories from the world’s most famous designers made from food. The beauty though does not stop there. Through the use of great lighting, illustration, transparency and retouching, these pieces have an untouchable style of their own that project a priceless quality only seen before in exceptional pieces from a museum. Louis Kahn had once said ‘Even a brick wants to be something’. In this case its broccoli, prosciutto, artichoke leaves, a watermelon or even granberies. These are all sources that we take for granted daily and it took a true artist to make us stop and admire what we call the simple things in life. And boy, do we love the customization of these daily 'jewels'.

Broc Bag

Cash-Shoes

Blueberry Burberry

Spaghecklace

Prosciutto Petaled

Radish Bangle

Sardine Silver

Sugar Foot

Melon Head

This book of 'jewels' was noticed by Dasha Zhukova the creator behind GARAGE magazine. From that point on, a collaboration commenced between herself, Fulvio Bonavia and Giovanna Battaglia to create four striking images of high-fashion attire exclusively for the first issue of Garage magazine. The outcome was as exquisite and as talked about as the Taylor – Burton diamond. The attires were priceless:

Lettuce by Alexander McQueen

"I was able to photograph the Alexander McQueen salad dress quite straight.."

Citrus by Prada

"We made a mockup of the dress using a transparent mannequin and attached slices of citrus onto part of it. It was not possible to make an entire dress of the fruit slices because the citrus goes bad very quickly, so I shot a number of frames and then composed everything in post."

Anchovies by Moncler

"The Moncler concept required a lot of post-production work. I feel post-production is really part of the creative process, and I like to do that work myself. During the retouching, I can easily achieve what I have in mind without any compromise."

Walnuts by Louis Vuitton.

The styling, layout & photography of these pieces portray the essence of these designers as successfully as their brand names. The playful and elegant transparency of the Prada dress is the epitome of style. As Fulvio explains the working process, we understand once more that understated elegance costs time and money.

Bellissimo!

#TBT G.L.O.W. - Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling

The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, also known as GLOW or G.L.O.W., was a professional wrestling association for women, and was the first (if not only) all-female wrestling show on television. The show aired for four seasons (1986–1990) and continued in various forms after it left television. Bizarre characters, beautiful and scantily clad women and cheesy comedy sketches all worked to make the series a success. Most of the performers were actresses, models, dancers, and/or stunt women hoping to get into show business.

Each of the GLOW performers had her own rap song (personalized lyrics using the same backing track). It was shown on videotape prior to that wrestler's match.

Shot from the Riviera Hotel on the Las Vegas strip, the women were trained to wrestle by Mando Guerrero, a member of the famed Guerrero family and a star in the American Wrestling Association and other NWA-affiliated territories.

In the pilot episode, the main event included the first GLOW champion being crowned when Tammy Jones defeated Matilda the Hun. Tina & Ashley battled Hollywood and Vine in a battle for that would set the tone for the show.

It was a great match.

T & A vs. Hollywood and Vine

The show became known for its campy but highly entertaining gimmick matches including the Russian Roulette match (six-woman tag team elimination match), and the infamous Lingerie Street Fight (AKA the Bra and Panties match) which involved two teams of four women in street clothes. The first team to have all its members stripped down to their underwear was the loser.

With 100% of the fights being choreographed, these women were and became real wrestlers. In some instances, they were really kicking each others asses..

Of course, provocative positions during fights didn't exactly hurt the shows ratings..

GLOW Ass Kicking Compilation

In 1991 after its cancellation, GLOW alumnus Ursula Hayden (who competed as Babe the Farmer's Daughter) purchased the franchise with the intention of reviving it. DVDs of episodes of the original GLOW series, along with other related merchandise, are currently sold on the promotion website.

Brett Whitcomb’s new documentary, GLOW, The story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling profiles the series through its rise and fall, which peaks in 1989 with an abrupt cancellation. According to the trailer there looks to be a plethora of original footage from the series as well as more recent interviews with its former stars. It’s a pretty cool and nostalgic look at a forgotten corner of the wrestling universe.

Some notable characters on the show were:

Amy the Farmer's Daughter (Trudy Adams)
Babe the Farmer's Daughter (Ursula Hayden—now owns the revived GLOW)
Col. Ninotchka (Lori Weathers) - (BADASS)
Godiva (Dawn Rice)
Hollywood (Jeanne Basone)
Lightning (Cheryl Rusa)
Matilda the Hun (Dee Booher)
Mt. Fiji (Emily Dole)
Palestina (Janeen Jewett)
Sally the Farmer's Daughter (Becky Mullen)
Tina Ferrari (Lisa Moretti)
Vine (Janet Bowers)

May of the ladies went on to become professional wrestlers, minus the campy skits and outfits. Although very politically incorrect, the show was fun and colorful. The women wore revealing outfits that blatantly used sex to sell, but the show still managed to be entertaining and not offensive.

Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, we love you!

Me Tarzan, You..Wait, Who You Again?

How Male Sexual Entitlement Hurts Everyone

Male Sexual Entitlement (MSE): The belief that men are owed sex on account of their maleness.

Rape Culture: The belief that sex without consent is OK (within certain circumstances).

Slut Shaming: To degrade or mock a woman because she enjoys having sex, has sex a lot, or may even just be rumored to participate in sexual activity.

Overvaluing of Male Sexuality: The belief that female sexuality exists specifically for male pleasure; the feeling of entitlement to women’s bodies.

No male sexual entitlement = No rape culture.

Bring back our girls? If men were properly sexually educated, (on subconscious levels especially), there would be no need to bring back our girls because no one would think it acceptable for a woman to be a sex slave. Nor would anyone think it natural to force a woman into marriage.

Why Does Sexual Entitlement Happen?

We've all been conditioned to think female objectification is normal. It’s embedded in the way promiscuous men are idolized while promiscuous women get called sluts.

“Conscious” men may think that playing to women’s emotional needs exempts them from acting in a sexually entitled way, but this isn't true.

Even the most sensitive of men may not see how they participate in MSE. Some men think being sensitive to women’s issues gives them a dating edge.

Where Does Sexual Entitlement Show Up?

In intimate relationships when one partner tries to coerce the other into sex. Some believe that it's a girlfriend or wife’s duty to sleep with her with her partner, even if she doesn't want to. Marital rape only became criminal in all 50 states as recently as 1993.

At work in the form of sexual harassment. Often times, when a sexual harassment law suit is covered in the media, people slut-shame the victim:

"She was asking for it with the way she dressed.."

Rarely are there comments about her being made to feel unsafe in (what's supposed to be) a professional setting.

Toward complete strangers. Guys who touch random women in clubs, men who catcall women as they walk by and men who feel women should be instantly flattered by a compliment.

Such people act like it's their right to look at, comment on, evaluate and use women’s bodies.

How Male Sexual Entitlement Hurts Women

Sexually entitled men may feel it’s their right to leer, make unwanted advances and/or inappropriately touch women.

Sexual harassment, street harassment, sexually motivated stalking and slut-shaming are all effects of MSE that not only affect women, but can scare them. Guys who take MSE to the extreme believe that women owe them sexual favors in exchange for attention, aggressiveness, or just plain existing.

These men also feel sexually entitled because they think being nice is synonymous with being good. They may be helpful but with an agenda. Pretending to be a decent human being to get sex makes you a creep. Synonyms be damned.

Men who adopt the “I’m nice, do me” attitude help perpetuate the idea that sex is reward, not an act of intimacy between two people. Sex isn’t a reward for good behavior, chivalry, or niceties.

Period.

How Male Sexual Entitlement Hurts Men

Instead of relaxing when they get rejected, their egos get wounded. Someone has denied them what they believe is their right and now they have to choose how to react to it.

Many men learn to be ok with not getting what they want sexually. Some can enjoy just being friends with women, even if they were initially sexually interested in them.

MSE can create a fear of rape for women. Men who react badly to being denied sex can become a part of and reinforce rape culture. Some turn to misogyny to avoid feelings of vulnerability.

The majority of entitled men may not consciously promote a permissive attitude toward rape. They may not all be angry misogynists. They're accountable for the way they treat others, but are also a product of a society that constantly bombards them with images of women as objects for consumption.

We need to focus on both changing our cultural attitudes of entitlement, and model healthier ways of relating to women we’re sexually interested in.

How Can You Avoid Feeling Entitled?

In short, check yourself. If at any point in time you believe you are owed sex for any reason —including being a decent human being — you are thinking in terms of sexual entitlement.

Also, avoid viewing a woman’s role in sex as totally passive. Though women are traditionally stereotyped as having absent or mysterious sexualities, that's a lie. Women have orgasms, horniness, sexual fantasies, everything a man has in terms of sexual desires.

If you’re in a relationship or talking to someone you’re interested in, communicate. This keeps you aware of boundaries, and you can make a space to talk about your desires without demanding that they be fulfilled.

Because sexual entitlement is so normalized, even guys who care about respecting women can be guilty of it. Women can also enable it by passively supporting it or actively participating in this thinking and behavior. Both men and women need to check themselves around this.

Of Men.. And Magnums.

The Latin root Mag- means "great, large."

When it comes condoms, men love to use Magnums, especially if they think they need them.
The makers of Magnums are marketing geniuses. The "big" they design for however, are egos.

Ego boost = Profit boost.

Men put on these "larger" sized condoms and feel like..

The REAL truth is..

And it's a heartbreaking truth..

A truth most men won't want to know..

Just warning ya..

Ready?

MAGNUMS AREN'T BIG.

In fact, they're basically the same size as any other condom,
designed to fit the average sized penis.

The reason this "large penis" marketing ploy is able to work so well, is that in addition to men wanting to believe they have a big one, most men simply don't know what "average sized" is.

According to Trojan’s Head of Marketing, Jim Daniels, stated that “People are proud to show they have a Magnum condom — the large size really connotes a sense of ‘above-average prowess,’ let’s call it.”

Exactly. Men prefer Magnums not necessarily because their mondo-dondo boner spills out of other condoms, but because "Magnum" implies Ginormous.

It's all a head game fellas. (Pun absolutely intended).

Even the name 'Magnum' is a subconscious tool.

They're basically calling your lovestick a gun.

The thing is, some guns shoot..

Blanks.

But not all of course :)

There is an even bigger downside to buying condoms that are too big. Nevermind the fact that your dick doesn't need it's own room, but safety can be compromised. According to an anonymous college campus professional:

"We stopped carrying magnums at my school's student health center (and instead carry a differently branded larger condom for those who need it) because "magnum" holds such cache...
we would always run out of them, and they'd inevitably turn up in some poor freshman girl's vaginal canal. (I'm not kidding—there was a rash of 'lost condoms' last year among the freshmen)."

So basically, when you wear a condom that's too big, you risk it slipping off. The second sucky thing (puns all around huh?) is that it may be challenging for her to get it out when it slips off. No bueno!

Planned Parenthood confirmed:

"..Condom size — too large or too small — is a serious factor in its effectiveness. "If a condom is too big it can slip off, and that can decrease its effectiveness, "It is true that sizing is important."

So be honest with yourselves men. If you don't need the Hulk sized condom don't buy it. If she's boned you more than 3 times chances are you're a keeper. Better to have a condom that fits the size that you are, not the size you wish to someday be.

Condoms aren't jeans.

There are many ways to getting a bigger dick. None of those ways however, come in a box of 12.

Just sayin.
